Civic education lesson

This autumn, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania held the 19th National Constitution Examination, an annual event marking Constitution Day.

The initiative invited citizens and members of the Lithuanian diaspora to test their knowledge, fostering legal awareness and patriotism. This year, 25,929 participants took part.

The Lithuanian Section of the European School Brussels II is proud that many students joined the competition—and even prouder that Tomas Sadauskas (S6 LTA) achieved the best result among Lithuanians worldwide.

To honour the winner, the school welcomed Mr. Nerijus Aleksiejūnas, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the European Union. He met with class S6 LTA, presented Tomas with the Lithuanian Constitution bearing a personal dedication, and offered a symbolic “Pergalė” (“Victory”) chocolate. The Ambassador also donated 30 copies of the Lithuanian Constitution to the Lithuanian Section.

The Ambassador also delivered an inspiring civic education lesson, discussing his diplomatic work, Lithuania’s mission to the EU, and the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. He answered students’ questions on foreign policy and highlighted the importance of freedom, democracy, and solidarity.

“The Constitution is not merely a collection of laws—it is the foundation of our freedom, justice, and democracy,” noted the Ambassador.

Ambassador Aleksiejūnas has visited the Lithuanian Section several times, including last spring for a Europe Day session on the EU’s core values. He actively supports the “Back to School” initiative, which promotes civic engagement and European awareness among young people.

This visit reminded students that citizenship grows not only through study but also through real encounters with those who serve their country with dedication and pride.
